Mookie Betts wins fifth straight Rawlings Gold Glove Award

Dodger outfielder Mookie Betts has been named a 2020 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, winning his first National League Gold Glove and fifth straight Gold Glove overall.
The Nashville native is the ninth Dodger outfielder to receive the honor, joining Bellinger (2019), Andre Ethier (2011), Matt Kemp (2011), Steve Finley (2004), Raul Mondesi (1995, 1997), Dusty Baker (1981), Willie Davis (1971–1973) and Wally Moon (1960).
In addition to his 11 Defensive Runs Saved, Betts was also among the NL right field leaders in ultimate zone rating (6.0–1st), ultimate zone rating per 150 games (15.9–1st), range runs (6.0–1st), innings played (438 2/3–2nd) and outfield assists (1, T-7th).
Betts is the 30th outfielder in Major League history to win five or more Gold Glove Awards and the first to accomplish the feat since Ichiro (2001–10). Betts’ 104 defensive runs saved since 2016, when he began his streak of five straight Gold Glove Awards, rank first in the Majors.
“Mookie’s pretty special,” Clayton Kershaw said during the Dodgers’ postseason run. “He does things on a baseball field that not many people can do, and he does it very consistently, which I think separates him from a lot of guys.”
In the postseason, Betts’ mesmerizing plays in right field helped the Dodgers overcome a 3–1 deficit in the National League Championship Series and win the World Series in his first season in Los Angeles.
“Coming in, when we acquired him, my expectations were sky high,” said president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, “and somehow he managed to find some headroom above that and exceed it. I can’t say enough about the baseball player, the way he makes everyone around him better.”
