Heavy Rain and Floods in Auckland

On Friday, Auckland experienced an unprecedented amount of rainfall and is the worst downpour on record. They are bracing for more heavy rains this week with more severe weather alerts for New Zealanders, who are in the flood-hit country.

Friday was the wettest day on record for a number of locations in Auckland, The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA), the country’s climate science body, said.

New Zealand media identified that two individuals died in the floods. Daniel Mark Miller, 34, was found dead in a culvert in the Auckland suburb Wairau Valley, and Daniel Newth, a 25-year-old arborist, died while kayaking near his North Shore home
