Day 1 Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used by the unknown person or people who designed bitcoin and created its original reference implementation. In 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto published Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System, in which he described Bitcoin and its algorithm. In 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto released Bitcoin-Q, the first Bitcoin software, and officially launched the Bitcoin financial system.

Nakamoto has not disclosed any personal information when discussing technical matters. There is still doubt about the real identity of Satoshi Nakamoto and following are some possible identities.

Nick Szabo

Szabo is a decentralized currency enthusiast and published a paper on “bit gold”, which is considered a precursor to bitcoin. He is known to have been interested in using pseudonyms in the 1990s. However, detailed research by the financial author Dominic Frisby provided much circumstantial evidence but no proof that Satoshi is Szabo and Szabo himself also denied being Satoshi.

Dorian Nakamoto

Dorian Nakamoto is a Japanese American man living in California, whose birth name is Satoshi Nakamoto. Dorian Nakamoto has served the U.S. military. During a brief in-person interview by a journalist named Goodman, Nakamoto seemed to confirm his identity as the bitcoin founder by stating: “I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it.” However, he claimed that he had misinterpreted Goodman’s question as being related to his work for Citibank and denied his identity as the bitcoin founder.

Hal Finney

Hal Finney was a pre-bitcoin cryptographic pioneer and the first person to use the software, file bug reports, and make improvements. The very first bitcoin transaction was from Nakamoto to Finny. And people think that Finney may have been a ghostwriter on behalf of Nakamoto. Finney suffered from ALS since 2003 and passes away in 2013.

Craig Wright

Craig Wright is an Australian entrepreneur and has claimed himself as Satoshi Nakamoto since 2016. His proof was the encrypted signature of Satoshi Nakamoto. However, people doubt this and Wright hasn’t provided enough evidence to prove himself as Satoshi Nakamoto.
