Understanding the specifications of the winter tire

Braking, steering, stability and handling may be affected if the tire sidewalls are softer. Buying a winter tire with a lower speed rating is not a good idea. The traction control computers capture the road condition through the reaction of the tire, so a lower speed rating can cause various problems and errors.

Tires must have the triple mountain and snowflake symbol, 3PMSF ( Three Peak Mountain Snow Flakes ). It is mandatory to have 4 winter tires of the same size and category so as not to affect driving.

To recover your tires from the previous year, they should have a minimum tread thickness of 6 / 32nds of an inch at the start of the winter season. It is the minimum to be safe even if the law allows 2/32 of an inch. The 7 days before the end of a rental contract of more than 12 months on a passenger vehicle with a removable plate (plate X) are also exempt.

Other exceptions: motor homes, spare wheels or motorcycles used as emergency vehicles
