Launching a blog site as my first project

Here’s the first version of Baited that was built in 3 hours.

In the beginning of 2017, I began to do freelance web development and doing freelance work has opened my eyes to the world of business. When I first started freelancing, I charged $45/hour and I thought that was amazing! As time went on and I did more research to grow my freelancing business, I realized that some freelance web developers were charging $100+/hour or even bulks on a weekly basis. I honestly couldn’t believe the insane amount of money people would charge companies and why companies actually gave them the money.

Here’s why, low risk. Why are there people who pay $1,500 for a new MacBook Pro when you can pay 1/4th of the price for a Windows machine. Apple does such a great job marketing and selling their product, that they make you believe it’s going to work the way you expect it. You don’t have to worry too much about viruses, maintenance, updates, it breaking in the next 5 years(unless it’s your fault). The risk is very low on a Apple machine. On the other hand with a Windows PC, you run a higher risk with viruses, manual updates and definitely has more maintenance to do. Feeling low risk about a product or service can also come from referrals and a number of other variables, but this is the reason why people don’t mind paying a premium price for a service or product.

So I than have to ask myself, how do I get potential leads/clients to feel low risk on me when I’m starting from zero?

My answer to that question is create. In my case, I’ve done a bad job self promoting and displaying something tangible for people to see. So I will be using Baited as a platform to showcase my projects & create content that displays my level of expertise in product development and performance optimization, thus a stranger will see I know what I’m talking about, in hope that they will be more than happy to pay a premium price for my services slash future products.
